Capacity Building of State Assemblies Members
The Legislature is an important organ in a democratic governance. In Nigeria, even though this fact has become acceptable, there has however been the absence of a productive synergy between the legislature and other organs of government especially the executive. The perception of the Legislature as an appendage of the Executive branch of government, does not address the significant role the Legislature can play in engendering a robust and productive governance system.
Consequently, with the dwindling state resources and the call for reduction of cost of governance, the Legislature deserves to understand that in carrying out its Legislative assignments of lawmaking, oversight and representation, it requires exposure into how it can adjust its modus operandi under the prevailing social and economic circumstances of the state. In other words, the State Legislatures needs to adopt creative approaches to its functions in order to ensure that the citizenry gets maximum benefit from government.

Objectives
The objective of this training workshop is to expose State law makers to the art of creative lawmaking particularly in an economy that suffers huge economic downturn in order to ensure that the citizenry benefit maximally from its functions. It is intended to engender collaborative and productive synergy between all the organs of government, particularly the executive and legislature.
At the end of the workshop, the participants would be able to:
- Enhance their capacity in the art of creative Law making
- Understand their role in engendering economic development.
- Understand the need for synergy with the Executive in developing and making of the budget to reflect the reality of the soda economic condition of the State and the Country.
- Understand their roles as change agents in their respective constituencies.
- Understand their roles in a recessed economy through innovative legislations.
- Understand and apply international best practices in the process of Legislative engineering.
- Understand the necessity for review of existing Laws with a view to sync them with the social, political and economic realities of the State and the Nation.
- Appreciate their role in ensuring grassroots development through Legislations that strengthen Local Government Administration.
